Booking
How do I book a table at Prahna?
You can book a table at Prahna online through SevenRooms, or by phone on 0131 563 4748. The “Book a Table” button on every page of this site opens our SevenRooms reservation page in a new tab. We accept reservations for parties of two through twelve directly online, with larger groups handled by phone or email.
Walk-ins are welcome. We hold a portion of the dining room back from online bookings each service to keep room for diners passing by.
Menu
Does Prahna have vegetarian options?
Yes. Roughly half of our menu is vegetarian, and most dishes can be prepared vegan on request. Our Baby Aubergine, Paneer Tikka, Spinach and Apricot Tikki, Yam ke Kebab, and the Punjabi Chana, Sag Aloo, and Daal Makhani are all diner favourites. The Vegetarian Biryani is built around the same saffron-perfumed dum cooking method as our chicken and lamb biryanis, with seasonal vegetables in place of meat.
Gluten-free options are clearly marked on every menu. Speak to your server about any specific allergens and we will guide you accordingly.
Does Prahna do takeaway?
Yes. Most dishes from our à la carte and lunch menus are available as takeaway. Order by phone on 0131 563 4748 and we will have your meal packed and ready to collect at the time you choose.
A short list of dishes that travel less well, including some of the tandoori plates that rely on the heat of the moment, are kept dine-in only.
Does Prahna offer Sunday lunch?
Yes. Our Sunday lunch service runs from noon to 9pm, taking the same à la carte menu and adding a Sunday-only roast option built around tandoor-marinated lamb or chicken with masala-laced potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Children eat half-price on Sundays.
What is afternoon chai at Prahna?
Afternoon chai is our take on afternoon tea: a tiered service of savoury canapés and sweet bites paired with your choice of tea. The canapé selection rotates with seasonal availability and typically includes chai-spiced carrot cake, apple crumble parfait, baked blackberry cheesecake, orange meringue tart, chilli paneer lollipop, scones with jam and clotted cream, a barbecue pulled chicken slider, smoked aubergine chicken chat bruschetta, and a grilled wild-curry salmon wrap, served with cool mint yoghurt and tangy tomato coconut chutneys.
Three packages, per person: Traditional (canapés and a pot of tea) at £19, Prosecco at £25 (adds a 125ml glass), or Cocktails at £26 (adds a house cocktail). Available Friday through Sunday between 3pm and 5pm. Booking recommended.
Does Prahna serve halal food?
Yes. Prahna offers halal dishes from the kitchen. If you would like to order halal, mention this when you book or arrive, and your server will guide you to the dishes available.
Roughly half of the menu is also vegetarian, which lifts the burden for diners following both halal and vegetarian preferences in the same group.
Does Prahna serve alcohol?
Yes. Prahna holds a full alcohol licence with a dedicated Drinks and Cocktails menu. The wine list runs from £6 by the glass: whites (Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Picpoul, Albariño), reds (Languedoc, Tempranillo, Côtes du Rhône, Malbec), and a rosé and prosecco. Beer is Cobra on draught and Kingfisher by the bottle.
The signature cocktail list (eight house drinks, £8 to £9.50) is built around Indian spices and citrus: the Chaiberry (cardamom gin and masala chai syrup), Tandoor Bloody Mary, Masala Espresso Martini, and Spicy Prahna (tequila, cucumber, green chilli). A tea list led by our Cutting Masala Chai sits alongside. See the Drinks and Cocktails menu →
Are Prahna's dishes gluten-free friendly?
Yes. Around two-thirds of the à la carte menu is gluten-free, with gluten-free dishes clearly marked on every printed menu. The tandoori plates, most curries (Korma, Butter Chicken, Madras, Rogan Josh, Vindaloo, Saag), the Daal Makhani, and the biryani plates are gluten-free as written.
If you have coeliac disease or a strict gluten-free requirement, please tell your server when booking or on arrival and the kitchen will prepare your dishes with that in mind. Vegan gluten-free options are also clearly marked.
How spicy is the food at Prahna?
Dishes are cooked to the heat we feel best suits each recipe, with our menu labelling each curry as mild, medium, hot, or very hot. Chicken Korma and Butter Chicken sit at mild; Lamb Rogan Josh and Achari Chicken are medium; Madras is hot; Vindaloo runs very hot.
If you prefer milder heat, ask your server when ordering and the kitchen will adjust. We can also build heat up on request for diners who want a kitchen-staff level Vindaloo.

How is Prahna different from other Indian restaurants in Edinburgh?
Prahna’s mantra is “Indian by tradition. Scottish by nature.” The kitchen runs traditional north and south Indian techniques, including a live charcoal tandoor, against Scottish produce: Newhaven cod, Loch-reared salmon, Macsween haggis pakora, new-season lamb chops. The dining room sits on St John’s Road in Corstorphine, five minutes from Edinburgh Zoo, rather than in the city centre.
The à la carte is structured in three sections: charcoal-grilled Street Grill starters, Indian Reimagined plates pairing Scottish produce with Indian technique, and a section of Proud Curries that follow traditional recipes. Read our story →
Is Prahna family-friendly?
Yes. Family friendly is one of our listed amenities, and the dining room is laid out with comfortable spacing for families. Children eat at half price on Sunday lunch (noon to 9pm).
For young diners the kitchen will plate smaller portions of any milder dish (Korma, Butter Chicken, Daal Makhani, Sag Aloo, Punjabi Chana) without the heat. Ask your server when you arrive.
